ABOUT MESSIAN DREAD |
WWW, August 2014 -
Basically, I'm just someone who happenned to be in
the right place at the right time with the proper
motivation and an enormous sense of determination.
That time was the 1990's, the place was the
Internet, and the proper motivation was the need
to share the love for Reggae and all these things
that are attached to the music. The determination
has brought me from these early years in 1994 when
I first surfed the world wide web, in 1997
when this website started, all the way through the
golden years of MP3.com to the time you are
reading this on this website.
I was blessed by
Jah with some things like talents and opportunity
to promote (DUB) Reggae in any way that I can.
This means producing music, reviewing it, showing
that you do not need to turn to illegal downloads
in order to get yourself an interesting
collection, sharing as much as I can about the
process called making music, performing live,
well, these kind of things.
I was not blessed
by Jah to work this for myself or even for money.
I believe with all of my heart mind and soul that
with the promotion of Reggae comes the promotion
of consciousness, which in my case is of course my
firm belief in JAH through Yesus Kristos for which
I am not ashamed. I am ashamed for many calling
themselves Christian, even though I don't have to.
I do have to expose them, and I do that too. When
you listen to Reggae Music and you know that Yesus
Kristos said that we had to watch the signs of the
times, it does not take a rocket scientist to know
that these things are in fact the same
thing.
So that is what I
do.
One Love,
Messian Dread

"Without
a doubt, the most downloaded dub music in
the MP3 era until now is the Roots Dub from
this dub artist. In the style of Scientist
and Prince Jammy and with modern technology
(read: computer), this "Jesus
Dread" creates a sound which tends
toward the dubs of the 1980's. Heavy basses,
drums which seem to be played manually, and
echo's which my surround-system can barely
keep up with create a buzz in which the few
lyrics linger on in your head." PDF

"Keeping
True to Reggae principles, Messian Dread
plays Roots Reggae with an emphasis on
Dub" MP3.com You can hear that the
tracks are contemporary recordings, but the
feel is strictly vintage. The spirit and the
soul of the classic dub recordings is
present everywhere, but he has created his
own atmosphere, which gives the tracks an
enhanced relaxed feeling." PDF

Messian
Dread is a so-called "Jesus
Dread", arrayed with striking
dreadlocks and very religious. He is the
founder of the formation JAH ROOTS. Inspired
by Dubmasters like Scientist, Prince Jammy
and King Tubby, Messian Dread makes deep dub
on his demo-album MESSENJAH DUB Rhtyhm and
bass are the most important ingredients of
this druggy music. Basslines are being kept
very basic. All instruments go through the
mixing-table and are processed with lot's of
echo and filters. Very enjoyable, also
without your head in clouds of herb.

Pulsing
bass, conscious vocals with heavy echo, and
wicked keys are layered over slow grooving
riddims. There hasn't been much dub of this
style or quality released in the last five
years.Messian Dread has a firm grasp of
dub's history and the instruments that work
most effectively in it. He plays handmade
congo drums in a Nyabinghi style on "Ethopian
Dub," follows the rub-a-dub style that
the Roots Radics did so well on "Judgement
Dub," and experiments with newer echo
techniques on "99 Dub Street.

Swirling
pools of spoken-word samples, guitars, and
hand drums build to full-on Dub excursions
whose sunny keyboards, guitar stabs, and
horn samples recall classic Roots Reggae.
The heavy, thudding bass and echo-drenched
sounds hearken back to the genre's classic
artists. Occasionally, vocals will enter and
sing songs of praise.

And
righteous dub it is indeed. With a
suprisingly heavy bass for MP3 and a nice
spacious feel to the production, this is
definitly the one the horizontal people
should check out. You know who you
are."

I
don't know if there is someone in Middle
Europe whos is more into the reggae and JAH
culture than Messian Dread. It is amazing
how he is able to put this spirit in his
music. It sounds like originally jamaican
1970s dub! With every tone you hear that he
is "in it". There are so many
people shouting for modern produced dub
sounding like the originals. Well, take this
or cry for ever. Expect some heavy roots dub
at it's best. PDF
