August 2025 - A One Drop riddim, a very
interesting chord progression with some very
basic instrumentation and a running bass
line form the foundation of the Churchican
Riddim, the third Roots Generators riddim
released by the Dubroom. The two titles that
are created with this riddim form a strong
warning against what is commonly known as
"Chrurchianity" and still a
message to keep believing in Yesus Kristos.
The music
is sweet and definitely has a late 1960's
vibe around it. Especially in the first
title, the singing is very much similar to
the late 1960's. The minimalistic
instrumentation, just a piano and two
guitars over the bass and drum/percussion
adds to that vibe. Even though it is a basic
two chord riddim, there is one part just
after the beginning of the track that has a
very interesting chord progression. It's
like the music goes everywhere.
The riddim
comes with two titles, each one having a
vocal and a Dub part. The first title
("Church On Sunday") has a
traditional singing style while the second
("Mister Churchican") has a much
more contemporary style of voicing. A bit
between toasting and singing. The Dubs are
mixed in accordance with the minimalistic
vibe, with no fancy effects. Just reverb and
delay, everything mixed by hand of
course.

info: The skanks are played using plug in's
from Sound
Fingers ("Le Skank" and
"Dub Piano") and in the mix the "Dub
Filter" from the Audio Thing company
is definitely vibing and nicing up the
sound.
